Namami Gange Project - first impact by October

Namami Gange Project will show its first impact by October, as said Uma Bharti.

The government had launched more than 300 projects along the banks of Ganga on Thursday under the Namami Gange program to clean and protect the 2,500 km long river.

496.jpgSpeaking in an exclusive conversation with ETV News, head Jagdeesh Chandra, Bharti said the project will definitely show its impact, adding that Ganga would yet again be clean and beautiful. She said the river is getting polluted due to waste waters minting from industries and sewerage of cities.

The government had launched more than 300 projects along the banks of Ganga, ranging from construction and modernisation of ghats to afforestation of river banks, on Thursday under the Namami Gange program to clean and protect the 2,500 km long river. The government has lined up 1,000 projects in different states including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal as part of the National Mission for Clean Ganga.

In May 2015, the Centre had approved the Namami Gange programme with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crores for five years.

As part of the program, the government plans to beautify and modernise hundreds of ghats and crematoriums along the river bank.

  1. Outstanding. Project this large needs rules between contractor & inspectors. Build, inspection and rapid payment for % of work complete. Always best if possible to have no extras. Too many people have to sign off and project slows. The last thing you want is contract 95% complete and inspectors and contractor that cannot agree. Contractors like rapid payment to keep workers and subs. happy. Work out details at pre/construction meeting on money. Wire transfers, check and some cash if agree by both. Namami  Gange  Programme must not slow. Get proper inspections , payment and move project. Sewage Treatment Plants need a few operators on job to learn operation of plant during construction. Large V-12 & V-16 cat generators & switch gear with auto transfer h need to be built and shipped. Many times the can not meet schedules. Always keep project moving. Good luck. Weekly press reports with photos are needed. Contractor, Inspector, Engineers and elected officials.

  3. Very appreciable and positive stance..  a sure cue to Administrators and Contractors to be serious in implementing the evolving plans without delays and diversions. Non Technocrats sure have goofed up in implementing construction and beautification of Ghats without bothering about Interception of Nullahs and cost effective construction of Garland Sewers along banks...

When can we have progress on Centre Govt legislation empowering and authorising NG as all empowered with sole and total responsibility to manage River Systems and Surface water resources impacting the River System , to plan, implement and maintain all items of work across the states by itself.

  4. A collaborative governance framework for agriculture sustainability...http://bit.ly/29CcrL3.  With it, one can analyze and design optimum collaborative governance frameworks.

    1. MoWR &NG should consider the following:

      1. Move a proposal to get TOTAL AUTHORISATION by law for planning and implementing the complete activity for RIVER SYSTEM

      2. Create three committees of

      a) Technical & Management Experts to study available data/ information/ proposals/ plans and CREATE A MODIFIED SEQUENTIAL ACTIVITY CHART WITH TIME LINES to bring in the best of technological and managerial practices in a FIRM PLAN with proposal Budgets for each sub-activity ,

      b) Management and Commercial Experts who should be responsible for inviting and engaging the CONTRACTERS/ CONSTRUCTORS to execute the ACTIVITIES with in a proposed budget and time frame and

      c) Impact monitoring Committee who should only document the existing status and the long term improvements of the activities duly implemented. This Committee should also have nominees from NGT to ensure enforcement and on actions as required under law.

The total authorisation, to start with -- for Ganges River System should be given a fair try apolitically. Window dressing and only superficial work like beautification of Ghats and some solid waste collection  shall not work.
