It is a great effort by CPCB of regularly monitoring and reporting of Ganag water quality. It is best to also monitor the coliphage concentrations in all the spots sampled for recording coliform counts. The coliphages are understood to be highly prevalent in Ganga. These phages specifically invade and lyse the coliform bacteria. Craftily designed simple phage-check experiments would throw light  for instance on the duration  the water can be left aside before use either for consumption or for many other uses.
