Q&A: 'Waterman' Rajendra Singh loses hope as India runs out of groundwater
Due to climate change, the pattern of rainfall has changed. Now we don’t have uniform rains, we now have erratic rains that are untimely most of the time. And the saddest part is – the last man in the queue has not been able to understand this change and make alternative arrangements. Due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers, the character of the soil has changed. Its porosity has been altered and it is no more able to hold water. The absorption and retention capacity has suffered. It flows with the rainwater, causing floods and droughts simultaneously.

  1. We, the ultimate stakeholders in our part of geography need to encourage and pressurise State Govt.s and Centre Govt, to (a) Pledge to  rejuvenate the ancient water bodies and reservoirs, and also create surface storages for Rain / River waters by atleast 4 times the approximate capacity of ancient ponds , lakes and surface reservoirs by creating Integrated River waters and pumping waters when Rain waters come into Rivers causing higher than minimum flows .During peak summers, some of Surface storage water can be pumped back into rivers to maintain a healthy minimum level. (b) Inter-linking of Rivers Systems and (c) Creation of Artificial Glaciers and utilisation of River waters as much as possible by tapping their flows a few kms before they merge into sea , to meet with demands of the coastal areas and upstream as much as possible. We must ensure that Governments allocate adequate funds as more pressure shall be on them when China alters the River Flows in their part of Himalayas....

  2. I am pleased you mentioned the facts about the natural changes on our earth nutrition/attrition cycle. When people start out with the false term "Climate Change" meaning man made it invites ridicule and extreme lack of understanding of our earths natural cycles.  India has 10 times more water than it needs. The wasteful practices, allowing chlorine to destroy soil and potable drinking water, not collecting rain water and using it, not using trash to make compost the richest fertilizer on the planet.  Time to put politics in the snake pit. Open the door to common sense. In case you forgot ask your grand parents.  If you desire to continue doing nothing you will get them same results.  If you have a sincere desire to reverse what is happening now just ask a question. List the elements of your situation and a very economical, sustainable solution will find its way back to you.
