Innovation - A floating trash barrier

A floating trash barrier

This device is designed, fabricated and deployed by AlphaMERS Ltd, Bangalore. The floating barrier stops trash and allows water to flow past it. The barrier is secured on the riverbank on one end and anchored on the other end. The floating solid waste slides and accumulates at a convenient point on riverbank located near a road approach, from where it is easily removed by normal municipal channels. To be noted, this does not deal with dissolved pollutants, only floating solid waste. It has successfully completed a pilot project in a lake storm water drain in Bangalore and further a commercial deployment in a river in TN. This is developed by www.alphamers.com, a company engaged in responding to oil spills in the open sea and technology development. AlphaMERS won SME innovation excellence award from industry body Assocham in Dec 2015 for its various innovations.
