What Approach works the best for River Restoration?

Published on by in Technology

There are several approaches to restore river environment: one is “Naturnaher Wasserbau” construction method in Europe; another is nature oriented river work in Japan, and similar efforts in Korea. Regarding with river basins, there have been examples such as Mersey River basin in the United Kingdom, where the industrial revolution began.

If you were part of any such project please share the technology you have adopted to clean the river and restore the environment.

Any idea what approach will fit the River Ganga project the best looking at the biodiversity of the river?

I am intending to do the same thing ...as my project....first the full assessment of the lake, point of entry of fresh water, sea water, marine life, water content and quality, and point of discharged and what discharged into the lake or river and direction of flow...oned I had this in control..I do need to find  a way to stop further discharged and re divert or treat the dirty waste going or polluted the water.....from this point..the river will need to allow time of recovery...I hope this will help

    1. Hi Danny,

Please consider to utilise Solar Pumps to pump away surface waters to any new pond or new reservoir with raised walls , in the upstream direction to the flow of under ground or aquifers waters ,at low elevation so reduce digging costs. When there is surplus water that can not be accommodated in the lake, let it be pumped away. There is a lot that can be done to create extra water retention capacity along the River banks in River Flood planes as well.

  2. Exemplary works were accomplished in U.K., France and Germany to enable Rivers to become pollutant free and with near natural flows. It would be a good to know the planned works attempted with resultant success and failures at each project work undertaken specifically for the object of rejuvenation of the rivers restoring the bio-diversity and managing the river basins to enable clean water flows.

Authorities responsible for Rejuvenation of River Systems in India sure can take lessons from experience of Water Project companies in U.K., France and Germany..

Look forward to sharing of important project works undertaken in last few decades !
