PM particles may contain smoke, dust, soot, metals, nitrates, sulphates , water and rubber from tyres .   Air pollution is causing around 467,000 premature deaths in Europe every year, the European Environment Agency (EEA) has warned. People in urban areas are especially at risk, with around 85% exposed to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) at levels deemed harmful by the World Health Organization (WHO). These particles are too small to see or smell, but have a devastating impact. PM2.5 can cause or aggravate heart disease, asthma and lung cancer.   http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-38078488

  1. OMiOM CleanTech LLP has developed and successfully tested  worlds first air pollution control technology capturing 99% of PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 exhausted from factory chimneys, vehicle exhaust, diesel engines, coal/biomass power plants.

A 10KW Pilot project being tested at actual factory burning 1200 KG wood daily. Technology to be launched in January at Vibrant Gujarat 2017

    1. The success parameter may be the ability to trap small concentrations of 2.5 PM suspended in a vast spread of cold air. At generation point, volume of polluted air is small and concentrations are much higher. Second point is that ultrafine PM has to be sucked from say top 30 m of air blanket, starting from Ground level upwards. To me , it appears that Institutional DG Sets mounted at low level, Road side burning of leaves, twigs and plastics/ rubber, almost still air with Plant/ tree leaves covered with dust performing photosynthesis at less than 50% levels thereby making oxygen content lesser are main culprits.

  2. We have very bad air pollution in NCR of Delhi and I had suggested simple interventions that could minimise the Air Pollution due to particulate matter suspending in air but who cares. Costs of bad governance are borne by all citizens.

If anyone is interested, I can respond to eMail requests sent to lok.punj@gmail.com for sharing doable interventions.
