TERAFIL water purification community plants in Karnataka state TERAFIL, burnt red clay porous media, invented by S.Khuntia, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IMMT (formerly RRL), Bhubaneswar, India during 1996-98 for purification of both ground & surface water for drinking. Various capacity Terafil based water purification plants & point-of-use are designed & developed by Scientist S.Khuntia. PRED, Govt. of Karnataka has implemented TERAFIL technology in community scale ( 5,000 lit/day capacity 12,000 plants in 3,000 villages) for removal of excess dissolved iron from ground water, and Govt of Odisha implemented nearly 50,000 domestic Terafil water filters in Odisha first time in India. Now both domestic & Community Terafil water purification systems are being implemented in most of the states of India for purification of drinking water through National programme of Ministry of Drinking Water & sanitation, as well as in many state programme, NGOs and private initiatives. TERAFIL is declared by Govt of India as a green, low cost and sustainable technology for purification of drinking water without use of power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx3i0nfhdSc
