Dams with in say 50 to 70 km of the start may not affect the river systems if minimum flows are ensured with bye pass arrangements for perpetual flows. However, creation of Lakes in proximity to Rivers to store excess flows and rain/ storm waters may enhance the strength of the river system. For each River System, the design solution can be developed to check Feasibility of Dams, Diversion and infusion of flows into Lakes/ Reservoirs and even pumping of part of flows upstream to maintain minimum flows in certain sections before big tributary joins the main river.
