It is good to research but what is Ganga Water? The one collected at source or the one mid stream or at tail end? We may not know about the Brahm Elixir but do know the pollutants that enter into it . My basic knowledge says that compared to other rivers, these factors stand out: 1. Snow melt -seeping into the silica laden spongy aquifers of mountains bringing with it rich minerals 2. Good turbulent flows increasing the COD 3. Emersion of ashes increased the Calcium and Phosphorus salt contents that helped Ganges water to self-purify it from organic contaminants 4 Manmade disaster: Dyeing, Tanning and unchecked diversion of Untreated/semi-treated sewerage, Industrial effluents and entry of municipal and industrial solid wastes have rendered River System and the main river polluted enough and unabated diminishing and restrictions on its flood plains have made sure that pollutants become strong when flows are diminished. 5. Human activity has reduced the storage capacity of flood plains and have also opened ways for agricultural contaminants to enter the river system through u/g aquifers and no increase in storage capacity of lakes and reservoirs has happened.
