We have been largely successful in introducing Bio Toilets with Aerobic digestion technology in India. Our entire research and development of multi strain aerobic bacteria took place in the labs in US. We took extensive trials on toilets which gave excellent results as far as the effluent water quality. During this process we took some trials of using our Bio Media in Leach pit toilets and Septic Tanks, it gives very good results in terms of increasing the digestion rate and waste disposal. As a result of this the problems of chocking of septic tanks, foul odors were totally eliminated. Even in case of leach pits the manual scavanging is avoided because the conversion of fecal matter to water is fast. So I think this can help the performance of all leach pit toilets radically.

How do the Aerobic bacteria get Oxygen ?

Is the natural oxygen available adequate ?

We have a solution to grow Diatom Algae in sewage.

Diatoms require a small amount of light for photosynthesis.

So in a closed tank some arrangement is required for light.

The manhole covers can be replaced with transparent acrylic sheets with grill on top for safety or

LED lights can be used, about 100 watt LEDs for 100 KLD of sewage flow would be required. LEDs would ensure photosynthesis for 24 hours and would be very efficient.

Diatom Algae also consume nutrients N and P, so the treatment quality too will improve.

Diatoms consume the CO2 produced by the aerobic bacteria and release Oxygen. So the septic tank will not emit either Methane or CO2.

The natural Oxygen which enters is sufficient we don't use any forced draft system to pump in oxygen
