We have a solution to grow Diatom Algae in sewage.   Diatoms require a small amount of light for photosynthesis. So in a closed tank some arrangement is required for light. The manhole covers can be replaced with transparent acrylic sheets with grill on top for safety or LED lights can be used, about 100 watt LEDs for 100 KLD of sewage flow would be required. LEDs would ensure photosynthesis for 24 hours and would be very efficient.   Diatom Algae also consume nutrients N and P, so the treatment quality too will improve.  Diatoms consume the CO2 produced by the aerobic bacteria and release Oxygen.
